Sword & Shield

The Sword & Shield (SnS) is lightweight and fast weapon, and the only only weapon that lets a player use items and the Slinger without sheathing the weapon, which gives the SnS great utility.

Using items and the Slinger

With the weapon drawn, items can be used by holding R2 and pressing . Alternatively the Slinger can be used by holding L2 to aim and pressing R2 to fire.

Combat Tips

  • The SnS attacks are fast, making them capable of dealing Elemental or Status damage quickly.
  • The SnS's Guarding ability is weak and using the Shield to Guard should be reserved as a final resort. Instead, utilize the SnS's high mobility to avoid attacks.
  • Shield-oriented attacks can be used to deal Blunt damage. Blunt damage can Stun and Exhaust monsters, but be careful because these bash attacks may send other teammates flying.
  • By leveraging the SnS's unique ability to use items and the Slinger with the weapon out, players can set traps quicker or toss well-timed Flash Pods to interrupt monsters. Using well-timed items increases the SnS's effectiveness.

Movelist

Mid-air attacks are done in the air, such as after hopping off a ledge, jumping off a vine, or climbing up a wall and jumping off.

Spiral Slash Mid-combo > any direction+

Aim at a direction selected by the player.
If the previous attack could combo into a neutral+ move, then the player must use Any Direction except Forward+ to perform a Spiral Slash.
Any moves with the shield cannot combo into other neutral+ moves. Instead, they are limited to Any Direction except Forward+ as well.
For moves that are not limited to these 2 conditions, any direction+ will work.
