Long Sword

The Long Sword (LS) is a long reaching weapon with quick, fluid attacks. Maximizing the LS's potential requires understanding the Spirit Gauge.

Spirit Gauge

Landing successful attacks builds up the Spirit Gauge. The Spirit Gauge can be used to perform Spirit Attacks and Foresight Slashes. Landing a successful Spirit Roundslash will level up the Spirit Gauge, and higher Spirit Gauge levels confer a stronger attack buff.

After a set duration, the Spirit Gauge will reduce by one level. Landing a successful Spirit Roundslash will level up the Spirit Gauge again and its duration at this level is reset.

The Long Sword can regenerate Spirit Gauge by landing a successful Spirit Helm Breaker from a Spirit Thrust attack. Doing this will consume one level of the Spirit Gauge, but successfully connecting with a monster will cause the Spirit Gauge to glow and regenerate.

Foresight Slash

While the Long Sword cannot guard, incoming attacks can be dodged with a well-timed Foresight Slash.

Performing a Foresight Slash right before being hit will consume some of the Spirit Gauge to absorb the attack (blue aura). Succesfully avoiding an attack with a Foresight Slash enables comboing into a Spirit Roundslash.

Combat Tips

  • Fill up the Spirit Gauge by landing attacks. Level up the Spirit Gauge by landing a Spirit Roundslash. Higher Spirit Gauge levels confer greater attack bonuses.
  • A full Spirit Gauge is not required to complete a Spirit Combo.
  • Both the Thrust and Rising Slash can be weaved in between Spirit Attacks to deal additional damage and gain extra Spirit Gauge.
  • Evading in the nick of time with Foresight Slash can be comboed into an offensive Spirit RoundSlash.
  • Spirit Helm Breaker costs 1 level of Spirit Gauge, but it is powerful and it regenerates the Spirit Gauge passively if it lands, so make the attack count!
  • If the Spirit Gauge is about to level down and a Spirit Roundslash cannot be used in time to prevent it, consider using a Spirit Helm Breaker. Sacrificing a Spirit Gauge level when it is about to run out eeks more out of the Spirit Gauge's benefits.
  • The Long Sword's long reach can trip teammates easily, so be careful about positioning.

Movelist

Attacks that require Spirit Gauge cannot be performed without sufficient Spirit Gauge. This does not apply to the Spirit Blade I.

Mid-air attacks are done in the air, such as after hopping off a ledge, jumping off a vine, or climbing up a wall and jumping off.

Spirit Thrust Standing/Mid Combo > R2 + T If a target is hit with the Spirit Gauge at level 1 or higher, the player will vault off the target. The player will not vault if the Spirit Gauge is at level 0.
Spirit Helm Breaker Mid-air after Spirit Thrust > Can be aimed in any direction. The Spirit Gauge will go down one level regardless if whether this attack connects or not. Connecting with this attack will cause the Spirit Gauge to regenerate for a short duration.
Foresight Slash Mid-Combo > R2+ Can be aimed in any direction, and the player moves back from the direction they aimed.
