Charge Blade
[!NOTE]
Please refer to the MHWI Damage Formula and MHWI General Data Sheet by MoonBunnie & Deathcream for up to date information.
The Charge Blade (CB) features 2 modes. Effective CB usage requires balancing between Sword mode, with its high mobility and ability to [[guard|evade-defense#guarding]] against incoming attacks, and Axe mode, with its longer reach and more powerful attacks. Energy gained from Sword mode can be stored in Phials, which can then be used to boost guarding abilities and damage output in Axe mode.

Sword mode
Attacks in Sword mode causes the sword to gather energy. When sufficient energy is gathered, the Charge Gauge will be tinted yellow/red. Performing a Charged Phial move will store this energy into Phials. If too much energy is stored in the sword, it will cause the sword to be overcharged, and any attack in Sword mode will be deflected.

Stored Phials can be used to unleash various Elemental Discharges (EDs) in Axe mode. The Phials can also used to grant the Chage Blade an Element Boost (more information below). While in Element Boost, the Guarding capability in Sword mode is greatly enhanced and the Amped Element Discharge attack in Axe Mode is strengthend.
The CB has two types of Phials, the Impact Phial and the Element Phial. Phial explosions deal [[Fixed-type damage|damage##fixed-damage]] and apply Exhaust Status damage or Stun/KO damage. Phial explosions caused by Element Phials deal Elemental damage corresponding to the Element attribute on the CB.

Element Boost
When the Charge Gauge has at least one phial, the player can perform an Elemental RoundSlash during an Amped Elemental Discharge or Super Amped Elemental Discharge to use all stored Phial energy to charge the shield. Doing so covers the shield in a red aura. The shield is now under a state called Element Boost, or commonly known as Red Shield.
A single Phial adds 30 seconds of duration to Element Boost, and multiple Phials can be used to charge the shield at once. While Element Boost is active, its duration can be extended by expending Phials to charge the shield. However, do note that Element Boost's duration caps out at 300 seconds.
While in Element Boost, the Charge Blade gains stronger guarding capability. Furthermore, any attacks blocked by the shield will trigger a phial burst that harms the attacking monster.

Guard Reaction and Guard Point
When blocking an attack, the Charge Blade can be chained into various attacks during a Guard Reaction.
In Sword mode, certain attacks place the shield in front of the player during its attack animation. In this short window, the attack has guarding capability. This guard window and the act of guarding with this guard window are collectively known as a Guard Point (GP).
A successful GP block can be chained into various attacks. Combined with Element Boost, Guard Points allows the player to block attacks during their attack animations and then perform an immediate counter attack.
Sword: Condensed Element Slash
When performing a Charge Phial move while Element Boost is active, the player can chain into Sword: Condensed Elemental Slash by holding <<T>>
and releasing it at the right timing. When timed correctly, the sword will be imbued with the Phial effect temporarily.

Combat Tips
- Elemental Boost (Red Shield) gives Sword mode better guarding capability and Axe mode stronger attacks.
- Always maintain Element Boost to maximize the CB's capabilities.
- Always build up phials to use EDs in Axe mode. EDs are a very crucial aspect of Axe mode's damage.
- Attacks where the player puts the shield in front of them during the animation enables a Guard Point. Make use of Guard Points to defend against monster attacks and to immediately counterattack with a powerful hit.
Movelist: Sword
Mid-air attacks are done in the air, such as after hopping off a ledge, jumping off a vine, or climbing up a wall and jumping off.
